Chris

I have run businesses for the last 30 years in varying capacities from Manager to owner. I qualified as a Licenced Settlement Agent in 1986 and worked in that field, mentoring and coaching numerous staff members along the way. In 2010, I became one of the founding owners of WA Advanced Training Academy. For me, it was a change of career direction. Having enjoyed the challenges of training my staff over the years in an informal environment, my challenge now was to become qualified as a trainer and assessor to deliver formal training. In the first 5 years I obtained a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and a Dual Diploma in Training Design and Development and Vocational Education and Training. My duties with WAATA are to maintain the currency of registration and compliance of the company, and to also ensure the financial success of the operation. I am qualified to complete the latter task, having undertaken bookkeeping for 30 years and holding a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and Certificate IV in Accounting. As an owner of the business, I have a vested interest in maintaining the quality of our training and assessment services.

I have over 30 years experience in the mining & construction industries, beginning as a labourer for Roberts Construction where I was first introduced to heavy machinery. Moving on to Fluor Daniel I learned from much more experienced operators on more machines, however my formal training and on the job experience really began working for CRA. With their resources and a wealth of highly qualified riggers and crane drivers, I was able to progress from a dogger to advanced rigger/unrestricted crane driver. I then worked as a heavy lift specialist for John Holland during which I became their safety advisor and won the national safety council 5 star award, which was a first in Australia. From there I went to SWG as an operator/safety advisor on the Rankin refit, RAAF radar towers and various other projects for Tri Ocean.

I am one of the founding owners of WA Advanced Training Academy (WAATA). I have been training others in construction and mining work since 1995 and have been a WorkSafe Assessor since 1996 assessing in all classes of rigging, dogging, cranes up to open class along with EWP and Forklift.
